The ability to synthesize and manipulate surfaces and nanostructures is crucial for the development of innovative materials and devices with specific functionalities. At this aim, wet chemical and dry plasma treatments are used to synthesize functional materials, to modify surface properties and to produce engineered surfaces.

The Materials Characterization Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the analysis of a wide class of materials. When the development of innovative materials and engineered platforms involves complex processes, a careful  characterization is mandatory. A complete set of instruments such as XPS, UPS, AUGER photo- and electron-spectroscopies, XRD, UV-visible and FTIR spectroscopies are available for a thorough samples analysis. 

Various testing techniques are available for the characterization of the materials from an electrical, mechanical and thermo-dynamical point of view.
